Is your organization in the process of transitioning from a start-up to a more sophisticated nonprofit? Are you growing from a working board to a governing board? Are you hiring your first paid staff? Is your leadership changing? Are you re-thinking your business model or program delivery?
As nimble arts organizations, we know you’re constantly evolving to stay relevant, viable and sustainable. However, we also know it is difficult to effectively manage these types of changes. Change is hard and scary for everyone – staff, board, ensemble and audience members. At this two-part workshop presented by Slalom Consulting, you’ll learn an easy step-by-step framework that can be applied to various types of transitions that might be occurring within your organization.
You’ll learn how to:
- Define the change – why is change needed?
- Identify who will be impacted by the change and how they might feel
- Manage the key stakeholders affected by the change
- Create a communication plan for the transition
Part one will be focused on learning the change management concepts and part two will be focused on applying the concepts to your own organization. You are invited to attend part one without attending part two, but you cannot just attend part two as the sessions are progressive. There is a discount for attending both sessions. At part two, you’ll walk away with a toolkit of resources as well as the start of your own, personalized executable plan.
This workshop series is not intended for organizations that don’t know what type of change is needed. In other words, this is not a visioning or strategic planning workshop.

Jessie Blank (Lead Presenter) is passionate about creating meaningful and sustainable change--for organizations, their people, and their customers. As a seasoned strategy and change consultant and leader, she engages people in envisioning their aspirational future vision and enacting a plan making that future come to life. Whenever possible, she brings her improvisational acting background to her client work. Jessie is also a Business Volunteer for the Arts (BVA) consultant with the Arts & Business Council and has been since 2010.
Garrett Derman is a Talent Management & Organizational Effectiveness Consultant at Slalom. Garrett has played many roles within Human Capital, from recruiting and onboarding, to training and talent development. Garrett is a Prosci Certified Change Manager and has a musical theater background.
Julie Jones has been consulting for over 15 years in a variety of roles and industries. She has extensive experience in organizational change management with expertise in stakeholder engagement, leadership alignment and communication. Julie has passion for bringing PEOPLE implications to the forefront of projects and doing what is right for them.
Jessica Peterson is a seasoned learning and change management consulting. Her initial focus was working hospitals across to design and implement sustainable solutions. Most recently, Jessica has expanded into other industries beyond healthcare with a continued focus and passion for helping organizations implement large-scale change with the commitment and support of their people.
Alex Yates is a master of leading change. With 15+ years of “making change stick” with creative approaches and agile execution for companies such as Kraft, Humana and BMO Harris Bank, Alex knows from experience that vision, buy-in and commitment are critical to making change happen. How does he know this personally? He moved from sunny San Diego to wintry Chicago in the middle of a snowstorm!
