For some people, the words “networking event” induce anxiety and nervousness. There’s the notion that “I won’t know anyone there so I won’t have anyone to talk to” or “I won’t have anything in common with anyone” and even “I don’t know what to say or talk about.” But fear not—in addition to being light-hearted, enjoyable and entertaining, networking events can be a way to develop meaningful connections and relationships with others.
Part of A&BC’s focus is connection – with the arts community and with people who are passionate about the arts. As a result, A&BC has started hosting more networking events as a way of fostering connections with our business volunteers and supporters, arts organizations that use A&BC services, and people who want to know more about the arts community. “Networking events are a fun and efficient way of getting people in one place so they can get to know each other better. They also provide a personal touch for staff members, allowing us to make face-to-face connections with people we often email or call,” remarked Kristen Romans Mason, A&BC’s On BOARD Program Manager.
The continuous growth of A&BC’s core programs – Business Volunteers for the Arts (BVA) and On BOARD – is demonstrated by A&BC’s ever-expanding volunteer base and the growing number of arts organizations supported through these programs. Numbering in the hundreds, A&BC’s volunteers come from diverse professional backgrounds and our networking events allow these volunteers to connect with people outside of their professional network. “I meet a lot of interesting people when I attend A&BC events,” remarked one attendee of last year’s Connect 4 the Arts event.
A&BC networking events are also a way for arts organizations to connect with one another. “I’m so glad I attended this event because I had no idea that some of these arts organizations even existed. It’s great to hear about the work they are doing and to be reminded that I’m not alone in some of the challenges that I face,” commented an arts director at a recent A&BC meet-and-greet event.
From networking breakfasts and meet-and-greets to after work socials, A&BC hosts a variety of events. The main goal is to provide a relaxed atmosphere where guests can mingle with one another while having a nice time in a casual and social setting. As A&BC Director of Development Kristie Willis states, “Regardless of your profession or interests, A&BC networking events are really a friendly, casual way to get to know people. Plus, you’ll have at least one meaningful thing in common with everyone there – a passion for the arts.”
A&BC welcomes the opportunity to connect with you at any of our upcoming events.
