Re:Create The Art of New
The Arts & Business Council’s (A&BC) 2009 gala RE:CREATE The Art of New was a huge success! The event raised an estimated $220,000, a level similar to the two previous years—an astounding feat amid the current economic climate. More than 350 guests joined us on November 6th at the Fairmont Hotel Chicago for heartfelt tributes, entertainment, dining, auctions and a raffle, making for a night of extraordinary energy and excitement.

This year, we were delighted to honor two remarkable supporters of the Chicago arts community and the Arts & Business Council – Paul Boulis, President of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois; and Janet Carl Smith, Deputy Commissioner Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.
RE:CREATE also showcased the fresh, innovative and creative work of several Chicago arts organizations—all current or past A&BC clients. Artists from Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago, Writers' Theatre and Collaboraction captivated guests with dynamic performances, and a specially commissioned dance piece—choreographed by Harrison McEldowney and performed by dancers from such companies as River North Chicago Dance Company and Hedwig Dances—brought the house down.
