Conducting Research on the Internet
A guide published by the University Libraries, University of Albany, SUNY to assist users in finding information on the internet. Topics include browsing, exploring subject directories, using a web search engine, accessing meta-databases for in-depth research, and how to join an e-mail discussion group. Helpful links are included throughout the guide. 

Metro Chicago Information Center (MCIC)
MCIC is a not-for-profit research and consulting resource founded in 1990 by civic, philanthropic, and business leaders to help nonprofits collect and use data to make informed strategic decisions. The web site offers free search tools which aggregate US Census and other data from a 6-county metropolitan Chicago region. Click on Standard Maps/Reports to access the search tool and define your region. Also available on the site are maps for the City of Chicago and the metropolitan Chicago area showing population changes from the 1990 to 2000 census. In addition, MCIC produces research papers on specific topics, including several about arts, culture and tourism.
